Busy Weekend

June 30, 2008

Elliott turned two this weekend. We had several of his friends over on Saturday, then the grandparents today. He had a blast, ate lots of cake too! He got several boy toys(including a new bike) to keep him happy for awhile.

I did catch some of the Olympic trials this weekend. The sprinters were awesome. If you ever need proof that intervals do work, just check out a sprinter. Their workouts consist of short hard efforts that last only several seconds. Compare that to the distance runner that logs mile after mile. Which physique do you think looks the fittest?

I’m checking out the swimming events now. It’s hard to believe that Micheal Phelps will only be 23 this year. Looks like he might be one of the most decorated swimmers ever. I’m looking forward to the Olympics this summer.

Heather gets it done!

June 28, 2008

For the past several years I’ve had the opportunity to train one of the strongest and most dedicated females I’ve ever met. Even though she has a very stressful job she still makes it in 3 days per week at the crack of dawn to train. She’s fun, dedicated, never complains and always pushes herself. She’s the client that every trainer dreams about working with.

AD-FIT Bootcamp Class

June 27, 2008

The Wellness Center does a summer camp called AD-FIT. I get the opportunity to work with the kids two days per week for about 30 minutes. We do various fitness activities, including indoor cycling, jogging, etc. Lately, we’ve been doing a fitness bootcamp class. Today was one of the best workouts I’ve seen. The kids worked so hard and seemed to enjoy it. It’s fun to see the kids pushing themselves and realizing that they can do more than they thought.

Blasting those Legs!!

June 25, 2008

You ever have one of those workouts that seem to get you all fired up about training. Today I had one of those days. I trained legs with Mike D after our shift. It was killer! Short, intense and left my quads shaking. Can’t wait to see what they feel like the next couple of days.

Zoo Trip!

June 24, 2008

We decided to take the kids to the Asheboro Zoo on Saturday. Everything was going great until Elliott tripped and fell flat on his face. As soon as as picked him up I knew he was badly hurt. Blood was pouring from his mouth as he cried. Luckily a couple of zoo workers came to help very quickly. They radioed the zoo EMS and they transported us back to our car. We started to take him to the Asheboro hospital ER, but talked to his doctor, got some advice from a nurse and a doctor friend and decided a hospital visit was not necessary. Turned out he just bit his tongue very badly.

He’s doing well now. A few days of soft, bland food and he’s staying happy. It was quiet a day. We were all tired and happy to be home. Both Elliott and Sophia are ready to go back to the zoo really soon.
