Ramblings…

New session of Fitcamp is underway. I’ve got a great group of 13. Everyone seems so motivated and works so hard. They’re keeping me on my toes trying to come up with new workout ideas. I’m working on a couple that should cause quite a stir ( and be fun too!) I took a little video today, should have in up in a day or so.

I just started training this new kid at Strataform. He’s only 13 and has never really spent much time in the weight room. All I can say is this kid is gonna be great. He’s picking up the weight training very quickly and really does well with the strongman training. After 45 min of weights he’s still giving it 100% dragging the sled, carrying the keg, etc. He works hard & never complains. I look for big things out of this kid.

Low Carb Diets???

Lots of new research is being done in the area of weight loss and low carb diets. Several new ideas were presented at this year’s Experimental Biology Conference. I’ve posted some highlights below:

  • if you cut carbs you’ll see weight loss, improved insulin sensitivity,fat loss ( esp in the mid-section) and improved vascular function.
  • very low carb diets are one of the best ways to increase HDL cholestrol
  • Researchers compared groups of low-fat dieters, low carb dieters, low fat dieters & weight lifters and low carb dieters & weight lifters.  The low carb diet won in all areas, the kicker is that the low carb diet plus weight lifting was much better than just low carb dieting alone.                                                                                                                                                                         SO what’s the take home message here!! If you want to lose bodyfat & improve your health follow a low carb diet & weight train.

PS Don’t forget your intervals too!
